Settlr - Privacy Page

Settlr splits shared expenses between people who already know each other. It needs to know who is in a group and what was spent; it does not need to know anything else, and it does not ask for anything else. There is no advertising in Settlr, no analytics or tracking SDK, and nothing about you is sold or shared with anyone for their own purposes.

What Settlr stores

Your account. When you sign in with Google or Apple, Settlr receives and stores the account identifier those services give it, plus whichever of your name, email address and profile picture they pass along. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, Apple gives Settlr a private relay address and Settlr never sees your real one. You can also use Settlr as a guest, in which case there is no name, no email and no profile picture — only an anonymous identifier.

What you type into the app. Group names, the currency you picked, the names of people you add to a group, expense descriptions, amounts, dates, categories, who paid, how each expense is split, settlements you record and any note attached to them.

Invite codes. When you share a group's QR code, Settlr stores the code, which group it belongs to, who created it, when it expires, and a short preview — the group's name, how many people are in it, and the names of anyone added but not yet joined — so that a person scanning it can see what they are about to join.

On your device only. Your light/dark theme choice, and a local cache of your groups so the app works without a signal. Neither leaves your phone except as part of the ordinary sync described below.

What Settlr does not do

• No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
• No analytics, tracking or behavioural profiling.
• No selling or renting of personal information to anyone.
• No email, push notifications or marketing messages. Settlr never contacts you.
• No access to your contacts, location, photos, files or microphone.

Settlr asks for the camera for exactly one thing: reading a group's QR invite code. The camera image is processed on your device to find the code and is never recorded, stored or transmitted.

Who else is involved

Settlr runs on Google Firebase. Firebase Authentication handles signing in, and Cloud Firestore stores the group and expense data described above. Google processes that data on Settlr's behalf as its infrastructure provider, and may hold limited technical information such as IP addresses to keep the service running and to prevent abuse. If you sign in with Google or Apple, that company handles the sign-in itself and knows you used it to sign in to Settlr. Their own privacy policies apply to that.

Data may be stored and processed on Google's servers outside your country. Settlr does not transfer your data to anyone else.

Who can see what you put in

Everything in a group is visible to every member of that group. That is the point of it — a shared ledger only works if everyone can see the same numbers. Anyone holding a group's current invite code can join that group and will then see its expenses and its members. Regenerating the code from the invite screen stops every code already out in the world from working.

Your name and profile picture are visible to people in groups you share. Nothing you put into one group is visible from another.

Deleting your account and your data

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time: tap your picture in the top right of the groups screen, then Delete account at the bottom. There is also a page explaining how to request deletion, including for people who can no longer sign in.

Deleting your account erases your profile and takes you out of every group. Groups where you were the last person left are deleted outright, along with everything in them. If you sign in with Apple, Settlr also revokes the token Apple issued.

One thing survives, and it is worth being clear about it. In a group where other people are still members, the expenses you were part of stay, and the name you used stays attached to them, unlinked from any account. Everyone else's balances are worked out from those expenses; removing them would silently change what other people are owed. If you would rather that name were not yours, rename yourself on the profile screen before deleting your account.

How long it is kept

Group and expense data is kept for as long as the group exists. A group exists until somebody who created it deletes it, or until its last member deletes their account. Your profile is kept until you delete your account, at which point it is erased. Invite codes expire 30 days after they are created.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or erase the personal information Settlr holds about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: your name is editable on the profile screen, and account deletion is a button. For anything else, get in touch.

Children

Settlr is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
